And another pro leaves Holland

August 27th, 2007 | By: Jan | 6 Comments »

Co Adriaanse said no to Feyenoord and FC Utrecht and supposedly was waiting in the wings for the Ajax job.

But the millions in Qatar were too tempting. Co will take the coaching job for a year and will try to work his magic in the desert…

Forget “I always loved the Qatar competition” or “how could I resist my fave team from my youth” or “how can you resist working in that beautiful football country”… Co is after the pot at the end of the rainbow…

But do come back, Co, coz Marco will not coach Oranje all his life, ok?

Money talks, your never too old to earn some more. I just hope Co lives enough years to enjoy it.

Well, he has given us a lot of good players so I think its fair that he gets to earn some big money now. After all, he is getting older and in five or ten years he will have retired and then the money will come in handy.

True, but rumour has it Co is loaded already :-) . Anyway, he is one of the few really good coaches but he has never won anything big. So I’d prefer to see him work at Bayern Munich or Chelsea or Valencia and win the CL for instance. Or…hang on…Oranje?

what a waste!! such a great coach, sure he could do great things with big teams in big competitions… i can imagine a player whos at the end of his career goes to a place like that to fill hisn pockets..but a manager…why bother now?..just wait a month or 2 till the first managers get sacked and a good club will follow for sure…
my guess is he will be back in Jan. as replacement of tenCate (ill just keep on dreaming, hahah)
a minus point for Co

I have an off-the-point question regarding Netherlands football and the challenge of obtaining current information about the subject on English language sites. The KNVB website used to have a legitimate English language site, which they discontinued several years ago. They keep promising to bring one back, but when I check in now, it has become much worse and with no useful information. When I search the web through Google and am referred to allegedly Dutch football sites, all I see are dates or discontinued sites.
Jan, you are our best hope for updated and interesting English language information about Dutch football, both national and Eredivisie. Does anyone know why the KNVB doesn’t focus on English language reporting? Are there any sites out there that do report Dutch football news in the English language?
Thanks.
