You guys are hilarious :) My fav painter is Picasso, can only afford his prints though.....I prefer Abstract. However if ever a painting hypnotized or mesmerized me it's Rembrandt's Night Watch. Guys if you ever get to see this huge painting...step back and look at the sunlight ray from left to right and how it hits certain people virtually "lighting them up" ..Amazing!

Beethoven's actual name is van Beethoven, which comes from his father Johann van Beethoven who was born in Mechelen, Belgium, and considering especially Flanders has a lot of common history and culture to Netherlands but mostly Limburg and Brabant. I'd say we deserve some of the credit :)

As for painters, no way you can compare them, Carravagio, Leonardo, Migelangelo are tottaly different types of painter compared to Vermeer or V.Gogh. In his type of painting V.Gogh is possibly the best and most well known. Funny, cause I live in the same place as V.Gogh grew up, he used to live 1 or 2 streets away from me with his father who used to be a pastor in my town.

@MO- I take it that you refer to Johann Chrysostom Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart right? :-)

By the way, a lesser known fact, Mozart even wrote scatological music, the canon "Leck mich im Arsch" (literally "Lick me in the arse", sometimes idiomatically translated "Kiss my arse" or "Get stuffed") It's Kochel number is K. 231. It was part of his corresondence with his sister! He even had a sense of humour :-)
