Ajax takes the lead
Ajax played Friday evening against NAC Breda and is since 5 months or so again the leader in the Dutch Eredivisie, thanks to their 2-0 victory.
The Sons of Gods didn’t play superb football, but they did what was needed. The Ajax captaincy was for Kenneth Perez this time. The Danish international took the band from the iinjured Jaap Stam. Perez was the first goalscorer of the evening, from the penalty spot. Klaas Jan Huntelaar, the first choice penalty shooter, gave Perez the ball after having missed a penalty recently. The former AZ player didn’t miss, 1-0.
In the 64th minute, it was international Ryan Babel who scored the 2-0 after a pass of…again…Ken Perez.
Ajax played with 12 men – at last. For the first time in a long while the spoiled Ajax fans decided to support their team the whole match with singing and chanting. They must have felt that the pressure is on their team and almost screamed them towards victory.
With 2 more games to go (for Ajax, that is… PSV is playing FC Twente today, AZ plays Vitesse tomorrow) Ajax is back where they all feel they should be…at the top.
More Ajax news… Former Sparta-player and Ajax-assistent coach Jan Olde Riekerink is appointed as Director Youth Development at Ajax. Olde Riekerink was Jan Wouters’ and Co Adriaanse’s assistant coach at Ajax and assisted Adriaanse at FC Porto as well.
Former Oranje international Adrie Koster is appointed coach of Ajax 2, the talent-team. Koster was a successful coach in the Eredivisie for several teams (Excelsior, RKC) and has impressed the Dutch football world with dominant and attractive play.
Hans van der Zee, former Sparta coach, has been appointed Head Scout at Ajax. He held that same position at rival PSV and his “transfer” was met with shock in Eindhoven. They sacked him on the spot, but in Holland people speculate that many South American talents will now land at Schiphol Airport as opposed to Eindhoven Airport…
