Ajax should’ve copied HSV
Peter Wekking in VI.nl
This would have possible for Ajax. Hamburger SV doesn’t want to be pushed around. Rafael van der Vaart moaned, whined, whinged and even modeled a Valencia shirt…but HSV said no no no NO to him, his manager and Valencia. Rafa needs to stay for another season and has to put his Spanish dream on ice.
Way to go.
Ajax could have and should have done the same with Sneijder. Ajax’ best player, a midfielder scoring an average of 18 goals per season.
Ajax had to chose football instead of Euros. Last year, PSV Eindhoven gathered 30 Mio Euros in the Champions League. With Sneijder, Ajax had a chance.
HSV is an example in the mad mad world of football. Take this: 36 Mio Euros for Arjen Robben! The world is out of it’s mind. And there is no station to get off.
Real Madrid payed 37,5 Mio Euros for David Beckham. But that had a commercial strategic plan. With the Advertising Icon on board, Real Madrid sold 2 million Madrid shirts! This meant a turn over of 40 Million Euros! Within 1 month. The Glammer Boy from England ensured invites from all over the world to play demonstration matches and satisfy the urges of screaming Japanese girls.
And that is what makes the difference. Sex. I can’t see Arjen Robben wearing a Sarong, or changing his hairstyle in a native American coupe. Beckham erotized. Men and women. Robben never was a PR animal. He is from Groningen for God’s sake! He doesn’t meet with Spice Girls at night and will always be a chap of clay and wooden clocks.
Real Madrid bought potential, for 36 Mio Euros. And that’s what Robben is. The 23 year old could still become the best player of the world. That’s how Chelsea presented him three years ago, and that’s how they sold him now. The boy that could be… Still not a certainty, only 15 goals in 67 matches. He played as many games in London as the games he didn’t play. Sometimes, the opponents were to tough, sometimes his ankles hurt, then Mourinho wanted Cole or sometimes the wind was too strong and Robben fell over.
Now, it’s time for the Oranje international to help Real with their planned reincarnation of the White Ballet. Real wants to play hallucinating football again, and if the hamstrings are strong enough, Robben can still be Madrid’s Nurejev. And, if the climate in Spain helps soften up Robben’s muscles, who knows…he might score twice in the Champions League match against Shaktar Donetsk. And if that’s the case, nobody cares about the 36 Million anymore. By then, the collective madness will be thought off as normal…

well, as long as he stops this pathetic diving (which is humiliating also for us Holland fans) its ok by me
think the biggest problem is hes so injury prone..im sure that if he plays a decent amount of games hell be back at his best (first year Chelsea when he really made a differnce)
but also true; Robben is no glamour boy and never will be…hes too dutch!! (vPersie at Real seems to fit better)
first he needs to get in the starting 11…then stay fit and on his feet…then win us the EC08 and then everything is fine again
Robben needs to start proving himself (again), hes getting tto old to just be a prospect!!
