Ajax offered Huntelaar to Real Madrid!

December 4th, 2008 | By: Jan | 10 Comments »

Today, the AD broke the news that, despite what Van Basten lamented, Ajax took the initiative to sell Hunter this winter.

Last Summer, the alledged 40 Million euros offering by “someone representing Manchester City” was a bit vague. Also, Ajax didn’t want to deal with vague agents and intermediaries.

So, maybe to spice up the cash position, the newly appointed general manager Van der Aat visited Real two weeks ago and casually asked if Real wanted to discuss Huntelaar’s transfer.

The rest is history. Marco van Basten was “in” on the deal and didn’t block it. As we all know, it’s Marco who holds the power so he must have masterminded it.

The deal was a good one for Ajax. The transfer sum will be nett for Ajax (close to 30 Million) and the solidarity fees for AGOVV and Heerenveen will be

What about the end of the article, Jan. And I heard Ajax got 18 mil up front b/c Hereenveen got 2 mil and the other 7 mil (total 27) is due later. Can you explain all this?

What I heard is the initial fee is 20 million, which I guess Heerenveen get 2 million of, and the remaining 7 million are performance/appearance related. Seems to be a standard way of doing deals these days. I’m not exactly sure what the clauses are for the remaining 7 though.

It’s also cool to see Heerenveen/AGOW get a portion of the fee, rewarding the small clubs that develop the talent.

Real Madrid continues to be “Netherlands South”, with all of the talented Dutch players now on that team. Huntelaar seems like a good guy, I hope he succeeds there and perhaps gets some mentoring from the injured Ruud.

think Ruud and Klaas Jan are both very level headed persons .. they are both very ’sober’ people

i do think theres a danger with all those dutchies in 1 team ; if things dont go well its an easy thing to blame … vGaal and Barcelona were a good example

i have to be honest ; im still not sure on Huntelaar … 3 years ago he was amazing but lately… dont know….guess will find out pretty soon

here a vid on Huntelaar (the story)

The deal is this: 20 Mio straight up. Solidarity fees for Heerenveen (2 mio) and AGOVV (??).

The remaining 7 or 8 will be paid in three tranches, based on Real Madrid qualifying for the CL and surviving the group stages. The influx of CL money will then be used to pay the remaining funds. If Real doesn’t qualify, they don’t have to pay. According to Blind, Real could have made those conditions a bit tighter (qualifying for quarter finals or semis) but they were very gentleman-like. Blablabla :-)

I think Marco might have realized the guy had peaked, both in value and in performance. I hope this is not the case, as I want to see KJH do great things in Oranje. But he may not get any better.

@Matt - I agree that he may have peaked, but I’ll add in a second part to the sentence: ” at Ajax”. I think there is a big difference in the level you can achieve in the Eresdivisie and in La Liga. He may have reached his peak at Ajax, but I believe (hope) there’s still a lot more improving that he can do at Madrid.
