Ajax cheers, PSV cries, Feyenoord disappoints

March 2nd, 2008 | By: Jan | 14 Comments »

Remember last season’s finish? No one wanted the title then… It seems Adrie Koster, Ajax’ manager, has put his hand up though… It was inevitable that PSV would lose one day. They play lacklustre football and with PSV – Ajax lurking around the corner – next week – the pressure is on! Ajax won comfortably against Excelsior (4-0) while FC Utrecht beat PSV. The gap is now 6 points. An Ajax victory next week will bring it back to only three points. Exciting! Feyenoord, on the other hand, has lost the plot. Against the young team of NEC, managed by one-day Feyenoord manager Mario Been (former assistant to Van Marwijk in Rotterdam), Feyenoord seemed clueless and lost 3-1. Low point of the match was the Makaay tackle with which he floored team mate Bruins…

Maarten Fonteijn, the Ajax general manager, has been sacked over the weekend and JC’s hand becomes more visible.

Heerenveen seems to have lost it’s magic, losing against FC Twente while NAC Breda keeps on winning.

So, it’s

PSV with 59 points
Ajax with 53
NAC with 50
Feyenoord has 48
Groningen has 47
Heerenveen 45
Twente 43
and Roda 42

With 7 games ( = 21 points) to go…

Van Persie will play a part in Tuesday’s game. Robben, Sneijder out and Ruud a doubt yet.

Does anyone here think that Huntelaar could ever win the Golden Boot playing with Ajax. I think it’s unfair that his goals count for less than they would in other leagues, because most other leagues play more games than the eredivisie.

Heres how the table looks so far:

Huntelaar 26goals, 8games remaining, 1.5x multiplier
Ronaldo 21 goals, 10 games remaining, 2x multiplier
Luis Fabiano 19 goals, 12 games remaining, 2x multiplier
Boriello(italy) 16 goals, 12 games remaining, 2x multiplier
toni 13 goals, 12 games remaining, 2x multiplier
benzema 16 goals, 7 games remaining, 1.5x multiplier
mcdonald 18 goals, 7 games remaining, 1.5x multiplier
pucur (romania) 14 goals, 14 games remaining, 1.5x multiplier
kovacevic 16 goals, 10 games remaining, 1.5x multiplier

these are all of the top scorers, there are other contenders like trezeguet, adebayor, and a lot in spain. Just wondering who u think is going to take it this season

Ronaldo 42pts
Huntelaar 39pts
Fabiano 38pts
Adebayor 38pts
Boriello 32 pts
Torres 30pts
Trezeguet 30pts
Ibrahimovic 28pts
Mutu 28pts
McDonald 27pts

I’d say Huntelaar has a good chance to take it. van der Vaart has 20pts, nistelrooij has 24, but van der Vaart has more games left to play.

i think that we’ll rarely see someone win the golden boot who is not playing in one of the big four european leagues because of the effect of the multiplier. And by the time a young player playing in, say the eredivisie, is good enough to score at a rate that will enable him to beat others in the EPL etc and win the golden boot, chances are he will already have been transfered to a team playing in the top four leagues.

but all i can say is i hope ronaldo doesnt win it, because i know that if he does it will be because of goals he scored from the penalty spot after taking a dive in the box. instead, i hope either the Hunter or Adebayor wins it.

… don’t worry, i found out. That sucks! Arsenal v Milan with Van Persie and Seedorf fully fit would have been a cracker. It’ll still be great anyway.

Robben received a horrible kick and bruised his ankle. He is out for weeks. Sneijder is almost fit. Ruud is a questionmark (ankle as well). Drenthe is fit.

That tackle against Robben was terrible, studs showing right in the side of the shin. Looks awful in slow motion. The guy got a straight red, and I hope he’s suspended for a good long time. Glad Robben didn’t end up like Eduardo (get well soon).

actually robben was “lucky” because this tackle could have ended up like eduardo… i never understand these butchers. and they always got 3 match bans like those whos say nasty words to the referee. i remember a certain marco van basten who had to finish his career at the age of 28 due to very nasty tackles…

But the good thing of that was that we got Van Basten early as team manager!
