ADO Den Haag

May 24th, 2007 | By: Jan | 13 Comments »

This post may not interest most of you out there, but it’s been lingering in the back of my mind for some time…

You see, once ADO Den Haag (different names in the past… ADO, FC Den Haag, etc) was a big and proud club. They produced great players, think Ton Thie, Aadsje Mansveld, Lex Schoenmaker, Dick Advocaat and were every opponents (yes, even Ajax and Feyenoord) worst nightmare.

And pretty logical too… Ajax is from Amsterdam, Feyenoord from Rotterdam… Den Haag (’s Gravenhage) is Holland’s third city and the seat of our parliament and Queen… So, one would expect a great club there as well. London has 5 if I’m not mistaken. Liverpool 2, Manchester 2… ADO also has a very intens and passionate fan-following, but still…they can’t get the club back to where they belong.

This year, they needed to go back to the First Division.

HOW COME?????

I remember Goose being a avid AD fan (am I right, Goose?). So, could you please elaborate… What is wrong in Den Haag? Even Mr Networking and Super Agent to the Football Stars Rob Jansen himself is involved in that club….

This is bad… Marco van Basten has lost credibility now. Now he has Kuyt and Hunter to dissappoint with taking back Ruud Over the Hill… Sad day, and you all like this? Hahah, maybe next week he takes van Bommel back too. I think Marco needs to be strict with players wo think they are more important than team, yeah? He wants to play 4-3-3 and now he gets back player who is great in 4-4-2. I don’t understand anymore…

@Ish.; as a manager you need to have a group of about 22 players who you think belong in the national team…theres no need to think vanBasten has to play vanNistelrooy, he can bench him anytime he wants…you need to have the ability to play all kinds of systems; 442, 433 451 doenst matter
vanBasten WINS credibilaty cause now he has shown can has learned from his mistakes (still think Oranje is not the place to learn but alas) and that makes him a better manager
and yes, vanNistelrooy isnt as good as 4-5 years ago but hes still way better than Snoyl, VoHess. hes proven already what Huntelaar still needs to prove..

and yes, hope vanBommel will come back too, but dont think he will..

Ish, any player that scores so prolifically in England and Spain for so long and has that winners’ mentality belongs in the group! Let them fight it out. I applaud MvB to keep on trying to get Ruud back. Apparently Marco is not too big to get back on his choices. I am happy. Funny how your mind works, Ishmael :-)

Like your comment, Goose.

Completely true..
Personal credibility and honor should never be paramount to the team’s interest. Regarding disappointment to Kuijt (that’s the Dutch spelling right? :-) )and Huntelaar, both should be mature enough to understand that they would be making way for an experienced and in-form RvN. And yes competition always helps prevent complacency and would be good for them in the longer run.

@Jan; its actually Kuijt, but some of his family in Katwijk is called Kuyt (cause they used to be not very strict when it came to writing downsurnames in the 19th century) so you can use both but our Dirk is offialy called Kuijt. (what an informative blog this is..lol)

well, about Den Haag, think nobody really cares..so here it is just for you Jan (and a bit of therapie for me)

Think that there are 2 main reasons for the downfall of Den Haag and the reason why the 2-3 city in Holland cant seem to have a decnt football team.

1. The same as with Feyenoord (another volksclub) there never was a real good structure are a real thought through culture like Ajax has and teams like Heerenveen, because Den Haag never really was a big team (champions of Holland during the war is not something to cherrish!)it never had big appeal outside the region.. it never attrecked any intelligent people who cared for the club, or rich people like Scheringa, also cause there was no appeal outside the Den Haag region they never made money from selling shirts or had big sponsors….the relegation now was just a matter of time just like the last time 7 years ago..

2. Deb Haag has, by far, the worst crowd reputation in all of Holland.. it started right after the Feyenoord-Spurs match (im sure you remember Jan, haha), the copyd the english and went mad..
i first went to Het Zuiderpark in 1986 and it was a tight and grimm atmosphere always..people running on the pitch, fighting everywere, the regular fans who wanted to see the match with their wifes or kids just stopped going and all what was left were the idiots..the Ajax match in 87 was one of the worst crowned problems in history, not nice..
now cause of the name (its got somewhat better but still alot happens, espec. cause there are a lot of polish guys coming to the matches and they are crazy!!!) its difficult to find decent sponsor,,

we now have no money, a new stadion, no income, just had to loan 6mln euro from the counsel..its a dark future for my team

anyone got Abramovitch cell phone number??

Well, thamks Goose. I am sure more lurkers find it interesting to read why famous/infamous clubs are what they are… The thing is, there are still some interesting players coming from ADO. Ajax just signed one and are planning to sign another one soon (don’t know their names though). Is Jansen still involved? He is no fool…

I am happy with Ruud. But…before WC Marco said about Huntelaar he could come, but then he didn’t take Huntelaar. He said Ruud was his man when Ruud was benched with Sir Alex. And now Ruud is out and Hunter and Kuyt are the main strikers but now he takes Ruud back. Marco needs to be consistant. Next time he will ask Bommel back to! I want strict and hones manager and not manager who kicks player out, makes other player important and now wants player back. So, now Ruud is suddenly the starter in the team? And Kuyt on the bench again with Hunter? I am not happy with this sort of selecting! And Ruud if he does not score 2 matches, Ruud is out again??? What??

Ishmael:

We have told you about van Basten skills as a coach. Now you can see it. He is a bad manager, period.
