Aah, the Winds of Change
There are some days - like today in which my mouth was relieved of six teeth - when its easier to point towards another writer and just say, “Ya, that’s what I think. Read that.” I hope you won’t begrudge me my laxadazicle approach to this one.
If I had to sum it up? He provides a case against van Basten and then turns it on its head and makes a point about the positive effect van Basten has had on his squad as well as the tactics and squad selections he’s made. He’s worth every sentence.
Have you noticed the huge difference in the squad as of this week? Who’s injured or else left out of the squad from Germany in June? van Nistelrooy, Cocu(retired), van Bommel, Sneijder, van der Vaart, Robben, maybe van Persie and Boulahrouz is suspended. de Jong may also be injured for the first match and someone told me van Bronckhorst wasn’t fit either. Any way you slice the starting eleven will be inexperience and experimental at best.
Oh and Marco doesn’t care about age either…just so you know…and can sleep at night.

Van Bronckhorst is off on a suspesion from the (shivers) dreaded match against Portugal.
Just thinking about it makes me sad.

The Derksen column mentioned in this article is posted on this blog (Van Basten leaves trail of disaster).

@Jan, ya you get get the credit for that one! What do you think about it though? Particularly what Bouwes said about van Nistelrooy vs. Huntelaar? I’m inclined to agree but ya…that’s just me.

I was just reading through some of the comments posted on other topics and I had said that I thought Landzaat would start! Why didn’t anyone call me on that? “Hey Mike, you’re an idiot; Landzaat isn’t in the squad!”
I can honestly say that I have no idea who’ll start in midfield today.

@Mike, thanks for that remark, but i wasn’t fishing for credits though :-), just wanted to remind our readers of that specific text.
I do agree that Huntelaar seems to fit better in Marco’s vision with his type of play than Ruud who’s more a killer in the box. However, my criticism on Marco is not so much his decision to bypass Ruud and go for KJ, but more the way he handles those decisions and how he treats the big players (of yesterday?) in the media…
