28 man Squad in Holland

May 8th, 2006 | By: Mike | 8 Comments »

It looks like van Basten has made a cut of sorts. From 33 + Heitinga down to 28. Vlaar, Bouma, Emanuelson, Meerdink and Lodewijks are out along with Davids. I’m surprised at Davids’ omission. I was personally tipping him for a spot in the squad.

I was surprised at David’s inclusion, given van Basten’s emphesis on unity. Didn’t Edgar walk out in the middle of a tournement after a disagreement with the coach? Or am I confusing him with someone else?

I don’t think Davids ever quit Holland. But I could be wrong..

Ruud Gullit threw a fit and quit during the preparations for World Cup 2004 in the U.S.

Sent home, apparently, as opposed to walking out, from Euro 96 by Guus Hiddink

I remember Ruud Gullit’s walk-out as well.

Nicely done Rik; I was coming armed with a link as well.

I’m really surprised, again because of the relative lack of experience at this high level that Davids has been left out.

Man.. I hope we can avoid the negative energy this time around.

Here’s an another interesting little story talking about several high-profile walkouts of the Dutch Team:

Davids still has a small change of making the team, no?

Ya, he does. van Basten hasn’t said whether being lest out of the squad means you’re out for good or not. That would mean that Makaay still has a bit of a chance then too.

Yeah, 1994 i think, he told the dutch national coach to stop putting his head up white playes asses so much, and look for other skillfull black players. i totally agree with davids. sent him home, and maybe that is another mistery solved of holland never winning a world cup, who knows davids might have scored another goal against brazil in the quarters, and maybe even win the cup! sorry, im just day dreaming right now
